Chocolate souffléA soufflé is a baked dish made of beaten eggs and then flavored with other ingredients. For example, you can make cheese soufflés, chocolate soufflés, or fruit soufflés, though there are many types of soufflé. This dish originated in France and the word “soufflé” comes from the verb “souffler” which means “to blow up,” “to exhale,” “to breathe.” It first appeared in French cooking in the early 18th Century. I chose to make a chocolate soufflé because I love chocolate! This recipe is not very difficult, but I think the next time that I make this soufflé I am going to fill the ramekin with more of the mixture in order to achieve the true soufflé effect!

IngredientsIngredients
4 oz baking chocolate (dark) 1/2 cup of powdered sugar 1 egg white 2 Tbsp butter 2 eggs (separated) |
StepsStep 1: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Butter the individual molds/ramekins.
Step 2: Chop the chocolate into squares. Melt it in with butter in a saucepan over very low heat. (I personally prefer to use the double-boiler method). Remove the chocolate from the heat once melted. Step 3: Separate the yolks from the egg whites. Beat the yolk and the sugar. Add the melted chocolate. Whip the egg whites (until you achieve soft peaks). Gently fold into the previously combined chocolate mixture. *Note: The egg whites help the soufflé to rise. Do not over mix them or deflate them! Step 4: Pour the mixture into the individual molds/ramekins. Bake for 8-10 minutes maximum. Serve immediately. |
